Environmental, Energy and Land Management, BS

The Environmental, Energy and Land Management program will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to lead in the dynamic fields of land development, environmental stewardship and energy innovation.

Your coursework will include comprehensive training in identifying, leasing and purchasing lands for development, and navigating the ethical, regulatory and environmental frameworks crucial to success.

Agricultural and Natural Resources Law
Introduction to legal concepts, principles and practices related to environmental, natural resource and agricultural issues; in the context of the legal system within which statues are enacted, administered and enforced.
ARE 450:
Agriculture, Environmental and Resource Policy
Economic analysis of agricultural, natural resource and environmental policies; problems of externalities and market failure, and alternative policies for addressing such problems; benefits and cost of alternative policies.
ARE 461:
Agribusiness Finance
An overview of financial analysis and the application of financial principles to small, rural and agricultural businesses. Includes applications of financial analysis computer software.
ENLM 200:
Principles of Energy Land Management
The science of energy land management with an emphasis on petroleum, natural gas, coal, solar, wind, hydropower and biomass energy production. Complexities of energy systems and how surface and mineral management techniques compare and/or contrast to those found in traditional energy systems.
ENLM 300:
Ethics and Negotiations for Energy Land Managers
Basic negotiation components including negotiating positions, techniques and styles, and how they are used in energy land management. Emphasis placed on the legal and ethical aspects of negotiation and include a complete review of the AAPL code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
FNRS 444:
Watershed Management
(Primarily for forest management majors.) Influences of silvicultural practices and forest management activities on the hydrology of forested catchments.
RESM 444:
Advanced GIS for Natural Resource Management
Provides advanced training using geographic information systems to address the spatial issues of managing natural resources.
SUST 372:
Sustainable Energy
Examines role and history of earth sciences in developing energy resources and assessing the sustainability impacts associated with their development, emphasizing the impact of extraction and production on the environment, from non-renewable fossil fuel sources and related greenhouse gas emissions and climate change to low or no-carbon renewable energy systems.
WMAN 200:
Restoration Ecology
Principles and practice of restoring natural ecosystem function, structure and integrity.
